This week’s ‪#‎ArtAtoZ‬ staff pick comes from Sarah Kennel, associate curator in the department of photographs. Sarah chose Brassaï’s “Pont des Arts,” as her favorite image of the ‪#‎night‬.
“I love the way Brassai has turned the ambient electric lights on the bridge into mysterious, glowing orbs whose reflections shimmer on the inky water. Because the photograph was made on a foggy night, the extreme brightness of the electric lights, which normally would produce a stark contrast, is instead attenuated, diffused into the hazy atmosphere to lend the image a sense of mystery and longing.”
